In this work we propose a three-dimensional color picker for use in virtual reality (VR) systems. With the proposed color picker, HSV and RGB color spaces are displayed in 3D form and colors can be chosen in a single step interaction by pointing to a location within the color space using a 3D pointing device. This process is much simpler than thee multi-step color picker interactions within existing VR color pickers. Since the interior of the color space is not visible, we also propose three types of user interfaces which display the interior of each color space. These surfaces clip part of color space, display cross-sections of color space, or display discrete patches of color placed in color space. We conduct user experiments on color selection time, color selection accuracy and usability. We conclude by demonstrating the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed VR color picker.
